Nyerere National Park, previously part of the larger Selous Game Reserve, lies in the south of Tanzania. Established as a national park in 2019, it was renamed to honour Julius Nyerere, the first President of independent Tanzania. Spanning an area of around 30,893 square kilometres, it represents one of the largest protected areas in Africa.
