All about the Kilimanjaro Adventure

Although climate change has caused unpredictable seasonal changes in recent years, a trek up Mt Kilimanjaro is typically best enjoyed during the dry seasons – between December and March and between June and October.

Climbers must be prepared to walk for 6-8 hours a day

Climbers must bring along own climbing gear OR hire at a fee.

Our porters carry 18kg of personal climbing gear per client.

  1. Day 1 Arrive at JKIA

    Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta international Airport and after clearing with the immigration and customs you will be met by our safari driver and transfer to your city hotel for overnight. Meals will be on own arrangement from the hotel menus with overnight at Best Western Premier Hotel.

  2. Day 2 Depart to Moshi

    Enjoy early breakfast and check out from your hotel and depart to Mt Kilimanjaro. Depart with your packed lunches from pamper grill restaurant Enroute. Upon arrival you will check into Aishi Hotel Moshi for dinner & overnight. Later you will be met by our guide for briefing & packing mountain gear.

  3. Day 3 Transfer to Machame gate

    After breakfast we transfer 5km to Machame Gate (1850m). The hike starts after a brief introduction to our crew. The day’s hike takes 7 hours (15km) and leads through the natural rain forest and giant heather between River Weru and Makoa to the Machame Hut at 3000m. Overnight will be in a fly camp.

  4. Day 4 Leave for Shira Hut

    Todays hike takes (5-6 hrs) 8km and leads down a gorge crossing several dry river beds before ascending a cliff. Here we can view the Shira Plateau, the oldest of Kilimanjaro’s 3 Calderas and enjoy a well-deserved lunch break. After the rest we move on towards Shira Hut, (at 3800m) for overnight in a fly camp.

  5. Day 5 Leave for Barranco Hut

    After breakfast at 7.00am we leave Shira Hut for a long hike (7-8 hours) to Kaanga Valley on the southern circuit. The path takes us through sparse vegetation to the start of the Alpine desert. Here we branch to Barranco Hut leaving the Lava Tower Rock on our left. Dinner and overnight will be at a fly camp at the Barranco Hut.

  6. Day 6 Leave for Barafu Camp

    We leave the last Water point, the Kaaanga River behind and move on with the day’s hike which takes us to Barafu Hut (4600m). After a 2hr gentle walk through Moorland and dry heather, we will bypass a steep rocky trail, 3hrs on, we arrive at Barafu from where we have a magnificent view of Kibo, Mawenzi and the plains below. Overnight will be at a flycamp.

  7. Day 7 Summit Uhuru Peak

    After a short night and a hot drink, the final ascend of Kibo starts between midnight and 1.00am. This section gets gradually steeper as we zigzag for 5-6 hours on the frozen screed or snow fields depending on the season before we reach the Stella Point (5700m) at sunrise. From here on the crater rim we can watch sunrise and the magnificent ice fields. After a short break we then proceed along the crater rim to the Uhuru Peak (5895m) reaching there at about 8.30am. After the obligatory summit photo, and meeting the technical climbers coming from the west we descend to Barafu Hut for lunch before proceeding to Mweka Hut (3100m). The night again will be spent in a fly camp.

  8. Day 8 Transfer to Aishi Hotel

    On this day after breakfast we will descend through the rain forest to Mweka gate (1400m). Here we will be awarded our well-deserved certificates of achievement. Transfer to Aishi hotel for your lunch with overnight and dinner at your hotel.

  9. Day 9 Transfer to Nairobi

    Wake up call and enjoy breakfast, check out from your lodge and drive to Nairobi arriving in good time for lunch with free time for shopping. Optional half day city tour of Nairobi (at an Extra Cost). Optional dinner at a restaurant (At an Extra cost). Transfer to the Airport where you will be dropped off to connect to your outbound flight.
